Broadband Phone - VoIP

In recent weeks Broadband Phone, or VoIP, providers have launched major television campaigns. Let's look at what VoIP is and who some of the better providers are.

VoIP is an acronym for "Voice Over Internet Protocol". Simply put, it is the technology that enables a caller to place calls over the internet, bypassing the traditional long distance carriers. For the most part, Broadband Phone providers offer unlimited calling packages making it an attractive alternative to individuals and business with large long distance bills.

Voip can eliminate the need for a traditional phone line altogether. The user would place calls over their cable internet connection, or over a copper pair wire (same as a phone line) connected straight to a DSL provider. In this case the customer not only saves on long distance, but the local phone bill is eliminated, totally. "So", you say, "Where do I sign-up"?

SatellitePC telecommunications & electronics recommends the following Broadband Phone providers:

Packet8 features unlimited residential and business plans. With Packet8 you make and receive calls as you always have, but we route your calls more efficiently to save you money. Your phone call will have the same quality and your calling experience will be identical to what you have always had. Only your phone bill for local and long distance calling will be a lot less. And there's NO EXTRA CHARGES for features like voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, three-way calling, or long-distance calls to anywhere in the U.S., Canada or to other Packet8 subscribers worldwide.

Broadvox Direct offers unlimited calling plans to anywhere in the US and Canada for a low monthly payment starting from only $29.95 for residential and $44.95 for business accounts. Unlimited local regional and long distance calls to USA and Canada with Free Friends and Family number, Find Me, Follow Me services and more.

Live Business Broadband Help Line

Most business managers that depend on telephone lines and computers to conduct their business have only a rudimentary understanding of broadband technology. You understand the concept of uninterrupted service. You may have a grasp of what increased data transmission speeds mean to the bottom line. You know you need phone, data, and perhaps, video telecommunications. And, you may have a basic understanding of the difference between DSL service and a T1 line. In fact, relatively few small business managers know little more than that.

Your time is precious and a search of the internet will turn up a jumble of technological terms that may look something like this:

OC3 T1 DS1 LATA BROADBAND BONDED T1 DSL FRACTIONAL T1 VOICE POINT to POINT FULL T1 VIDEO CONFERENCING LONG DISTANCE ILEP DATA CABLE INTERNET RBOC FRAME RELAY 1.5 MPS CLEP DOWNLOAD SPEEDS T1 DATA SATELLITE INTERNET T1 LINE VOIP ISP

Welcome to BROADBANDblogs

I'm Terry Johnson and this is the place where I share my thoughts and ideas about what is happening in the telecommunications industry and my own business. I am an agent with Cognigen Inc., a telecommunications services reseller.

It is difficult to explain how I came to be affiliated with Cognigen without relating my entire life history, but I'll attempt to give a short version here, then fill in the gaps in later posts.

I was working as a supervisor for Mountain Bell in Salt Lake City, Utah at the time of the break-up. It was a great place to work. We were doing something than mattered to people, and we did it very well. Back then, the emphasis was truly on customer service. It made the work exhilaratingly. We were on the cutting edge of technology. I can't tell you how proud I was of the fact that I was one of the first people in the U.S. to have a Personal Computer on my desk at work- 256k, and get this, not one, but two floppy disc drives. But, divestiture was putting the squeeze on the work force. After taking a couple of downgrades to keep my job with Ma Bell, I began to feel like there might be something better for me and I took a job buy-out.

I moved to St. Anthony, Idaho where I used everything I had to purchase a small retail business, which failed after a short time. My roots go back to small town USA, so I was happy there in St. A. With the failure of my business and the exhaustion of my funds, came a realization that small town USA lacks economic opportunity. I decided to return to college and finish my bachelors degree....Fast forward several years.

After graduating from Albertson College of Idaho and moving from Caldwell to Denver for a time, I ended up in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. My parents had moved there from Salt Lake when my Dad's health began to fail. Soon they were both gone and I found myself in a place that I didn't really want to be. I decided to get back to small town USA. I came back to Eastern Montana where I was born and had spent my boyhood. I found Wibaux, Montana to be the perfect little village except for one thing; economic opportunity. I would have to make my own economic opportunity.

I looked at hundreds of home business opportunities until I found Cognigen. It is easy to see that you have found what you are looking for after examining and trying dozens upon dozens of other programs. I've been working on it for about 3 1/2 years now and have not been disappointed.

I work a couple of part-time jobs to keep thing going while I build my business. It keeps growing, too. This is a REAL business, not some sell nothing scheme. I can honestly say that I get out what I put in, plus some. I started with $0 and was committed to keep it $0 until I made something. That was the claim that Cognigen made and I was going to make them prove it. A couple of hard earned sales later I was convinced. The sales are out there if you go get them. It's work, but I'm working from the best place in the world, my home; in the best town in the world, Wibaux, Montana.

So, that's the beginning of this endeavor. Let's see where it goes.
